20. Jorginho

There is more to this ranking than shirt numbers, trust me!

Jorginho hardly made a bigger impression than those mentioned above, yet he feels infinitely more valuable to this Arsenal team.

No one can argue that his best years are behind him. However, his skillset and leadership mark him as an important member of the team and it might explain why Arteta waited until now – with Martin Zubimendi in the wings – before committing to move on a man who initially arrived on an 18-month loan deal.

Flamengo now beckons for the 33-year-old and we thank him for his service.

19. Riccardo Calafiori

Fans were Calafiori Dreamin’ when he signed last July but he endured a nightmare debut campaign at N5.

Bought to much acclaim, Riccardo Calafiori had been expected to make the LB slot his own given the lack of faith (Zinchenko) and fitness (Takehiro Tomiyasu) in his Arsenal teammates. However, injuries of his own forced the Italian out of 22 matchday squads and, one year on, the club are still yet to see the best of him.

His wondergoal at the Etihad and the winner against Wolves will still be fondly remembered from his first season.

18. Kieran Tierney

Here comes Kieran Tierney to add to the underwhelming left-back set, as well as to the list of players whose efforts were greatly curtailed by injury.

In fairness, the Scotsman would not have featured much with or without his hamstring troubles as he had already lost his place at Arsenal. He has only completed more than one half of football on four occasions this season but he impressed each time and perhaps deserved a better send-off, if not for his efforts then for his professionalism. His goal on the final day was a lovely moment, mind.

Tierney will return to Celtic this summer and should get the regular minutes befitting someone of his talent.

We need new lyrics for that Arteta chant too.

17. Gabriel Jesus

That pre-Christmas form was special.

Prior to 2024/25, Gabriel Jesus had been up for sale but no move materialised, so he remained at the club as a strong option when fit and available.

And he delivered on that promise over the festive period – at the expense of Crystal Palace. It began in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals against the Eagles when he scored his first Arsenal hat-trick, before following up with two well-taken goals in a 5-1 thrashing at Selhurst Park three days later.

Sadly, an ACL injury in January brought his campaign to and end and, considering his injury history, it might ruin his chances of regular involvement at this level moving forward.

Grim prospects for a truly top-class footballer. Get well soon.

16. Ben White

Ben White enjoyed a brilliant first three years at Arsenal but, after the last few months, he has a fight on his hands to keep his first-team spot.

Though the return of Jurrien Timber looked like an obvious threat to his minutes last August, it looks like injury demons will form his toughest opponent yet. White battled knocks at the start of 2024/25 before finally undergoing surgery last November, a procedure which ruled him out of action for four months.

Now he needs to get back to match fitness and perhaps that operation, along with the period of rest to come, will see him rediscover his best form next season.
