Mikel Arteta has officially tied his future down to Arsenal by putting pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him at the helm of the Emirates Stadium side until at least 2030.
Having first taken charge in December 2019, the Spaniard has agreed to extend his spell as Gunners manager by another four years and he will be looking to add to the success he has already achieved after winning the Premier League in the 2025/26 season.
With Arteta set to stay with Arsenal for the foreseeable future, there are four winners and two losers as a result of the manager agreeing to remain in the Emirates hot seat.
Four winners (and two losers) as Mikel Arteta signs new Arsenal contract
Winner #1: Mikel Arteta
Unsurprisingly, Mikel Arteta is the biggest winner from signing a new contract as not only is he likely to receive a healthy bump in his pay, his job security will be at an all time high.
Having won the Premier League title last season along with guiding his side to the Champions League and Carabao Cup finals, the Spaniard's role as Arsenal manager was never under threat, but the board tying him down to a new four-year contract ensures that he is nowhere near being in danger of facing the sack, unless things end up going absolutely terribly of course.
The decision to hand Arteta a new deal shows that the Gunners' higher-ups have plenty of faith that he can take the club into an era of dominance after finally ending the long wait to win the league title.
Loser #1: Cesc Fàbregas
When Arteta returned to Arsenal as their manager in 2019, he was welcomed back by fans as a familiar face having previously spent five years with the club as a player, and there was a strong possibility the same could have happened with Cesc Fàbregas.
The former Gunner has impressed during his time in charge of Como, achieving their first ever qualification for the Champions League last season, and has been tipped by many as the ideal replacement for Arteta at the Emirates if he were to take the next step to a bigger club in his managerial career.
However, as his compatriot has agreed to remain in North London for a further four years, the chances of Fàbregas making a return to the four-time Premier League champions are now very slim and it's unlikely he will be taking over the reins from Arteta anytime soon.
Winner #2: The Arsenal fanbase
Despite having his doubters over the years, Arteta has won over the majority of the Arsenal fanbase and they will mostly be delighted to see him put pen to paper on a new four year deal that will see his time at the club extend beyond a decade.
As part of the official announcement, the Gunners released a video that displayed a number of supporters showing their gratitude to the Spaniard for how he changed the club's fortunes since returning as manager to winning the Premier League.
Given how long it's been, it's easy to forget how far Arsenal have come under Arteta's leadership with the club dwelling in mid-table at the time of his appointment ahead of gradually becoming title contenders and eventual champions. The fanbase will be delighted to know that there will be plenty more occasions to celebrate in the not-too-distant future.
Loser #2: Viktor Gyökeres
This season has shown that there is a strong possibility Viktor Gyökeres may not be in Arteta's long-term plans. Despite the Spaniard pushing for a move for the Swede in the 2025 summer transfer window, there has been a lack of reliance on him so far this campaign.
Kai Havertz has been preferred up top and while his Swedish counterpart may get a chance to impress in the potential absence of the German, it is unlikely he will be displaced as the first-choice up front.
Gyökeres' Arsenal future is in doubt at this current time and that may continue to be the case for as long as Arteta is in charge, and it is highly likely the Spaniard will outlast the Swede at the Emirates.
Winner #3: Bukayo Saka
Bukayo Saka has been one of the most crucial players in the Gunners' rise from mid-table woes to Premier League glory under Arteta and is well recognised as one of his side's best assets of the modern era, but his recent performances have been well below par.
Despite already scoring three times in seven appearances this season, the winger's displays have left a lot to be desired and that has seen many call for him to be dropped until he shows drastic improvement on the right flank.
Arteta doesn't seem to have been fazed by those cries though and has kept Saka in the side as his first-choice right winger, which means his new contract will bode well for the number seven.
There are a lot of managers who would have dropped Saka instantly for his poor performances and someone who may have replaced Arteta could have done that too, but with the Spaniard remaining in charge until at least 2030, the winger's spot should be safe and he will have plenty of minutes to try and get back to his best once again.
Winner #4: Arsenal Football Club
The overwhelming biggest winner of Arteta signing a new contract is Arsenal Football Club itself with the side set to benefit massively from him agreeing to stay on for at least another four years.
Before the manager's arrival, the club were in a state of disarray, staring at a dismal mid-table finish while being linked with managers such as Massimiliano Allegri, José Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers, all of whom would have been stopgaps at best without the ability to fix the long-standing major issues the Gunners faced.
Instead, Arteta was brought in with a long-term plan that proved to be successful in changing Arsenal's fortunes, eventually leading them back to the glory of winning the Premier League title. After managing his first league win, the Spaniard could have easily bid the Emirates farewell for the heights of Manchester City and Barcelona, or the money of the Saudi Pro League, but he is clearly keen to remain in charge in North London.
The club showed their faith in Arteta through some of the hardest times in a transitional period and he has repaid that by staying loyal and agreeing to lead them into an era of potential silverware dominance.
