Gabriel Jesus netted twice in Arsenal's 5-1 win over Crystal Palace, with the Brazilian now scoring five times in his last two outings.
If only we could bottle that little thing called confidence.
Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has rediscovered his shooting boots. After his hat-trick midweek in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace, against the same opposition in the Premier League, Jesus struck twice and, in truth, could have had four.
His first was a well-taken shot after being left alone at the back post following a Bukayo Saka cross and he lashed home from close range.
The second was another well-taken finish after he was teed up by Thomas Partey after a corner kick bobbled around before the Ghanian laid the ball off neatly and Jesus curled home.
But he wasn't done there. After a great move by Gabriel Martinelli, who clipped in a delightful ball, Jesus rose to head toward goal, but his header cannoned off the post and into the path of Kai Havertz, who tapped home from close range.
Jesus again had another superb chance in the second half after he was found unmarked in the box by Leandro Trossard, but his left-footed shot was hit straight at Dean Henderson.
Boss Mikel Arteta reflected on Jesus' week that has seen him rediscover his form and confidence.
"The beauty of football – these things happen," Arteta said via arsenal.com. "He’s scored the same amount in 45 appearances in three days, he scored five goals, and he could have scored a hat-trick today. Great credit to him because he’s put so much work into it, so much belief into what he does and he was patient, and he got rewarded."
That's the beauty of football alright, Mikel.
After only having one goal in his last 20 appearances prior to the start of this week, Jesus has now hammered home five in his last two games, so it appears the tide is starting to turn.
All he needed was ample chances to try and regain his confidence, and it started in the Carabao Cup, in which he was sublime. After just 13 minutes against Palace, he already had a double.
There is no questioning what a fully fit Jesus can do for Arsenal's title hopes moving forward and if the Brazilian can maintain this level, or close to it, then the second half of the season is going to be a wild one.
Jesus finally feels "back," and my word, it's good for the soul.
