Gabriel Jesus gave the perfect audition to be Arsenal's starting striker as he scored twice in their 3-1 Champions League win away to Inter Milan.

The Brazilian was named in the starting lineup for just the third time since making his return from a long-term injury in mid-December and he made the most of the opportunity with two proper striker finishes.

He has looked impressive since coming back from his fitness struggles and his showing in Milan proved that Mikel Arteta should consider giving him the nod over first-choice Viktor Gyökeres.

Jesus was one of his side's standout performers at the San Siro as he not only scored two goals, but he put on a display that is required from a striker.

Both his finishes showed the instinct the Gunners require up front, poking his foot out to knock Jurrien Timber's scuffed shot past Yann Sommer before rising highest to head in from close range.

That is something Arsenal have been missing with Gyökeres, who has struggled to be the poacher forward that he was partially signed to be. While he has scored a few striker-esque goals, his output hasn't been up to the standard fans have expected while Jesus has bettered that in just one game.

While his Swedish counterpart did respond in the perfect way by scoring a stunning goal to seal the win after coming off the bench, it's hard to look past the audition Jesus gave.

There is no denying Gyökeres has been inconsistent in front of goal with weeks and almost months separating many of his goals and while he has looked impressive on occasion, it could be time for Arteta to consider making a change.

With Jesus and Havertz injured, the Spaniard didn't have much choice other than makeshift striker Mikel Merino to alternate his starting forward, but now he does. The German hasn't been able to get many minutes just yet, but the Brazilian has looked really good since making his return and he should now be rewarded with more starts.

It would be harsh to drop Gyökeres, but Jesus has proven a point that he should be considered for the starting striker role and his performance at Inter means he should now get the nod. Not only would it benefit the number nine tremendously, it should also spur the Swede on to improve his performances in front of goal.
