Gabriel Jesus has downplayed rumors of an Arsenal exit. Instead, his stance is clear: there is no tangible way he leaves in January so soon after his surgery.

If you were to sum up Gabriel Jesus' time at Arsenal so far in one word, that word would be injury. The Brazilian striker has been injury-ridden ever since signing from Man City, and to say that it's ruined his chances of being an Arsenal star player would be the understatement of the year.

When he arrived, Jesus brought so much promise. He was often pointed out as the game-changing transfer, and one that would render Arsenal as genuine title contenders. The season he signed, Arsenal came the closest they'd been in a long time

It was a great start for Jesus, but soon enough, Jesus picked up an injury - the hint of what would become his Arsenal tale to this point.

Gabriel Jesus makes one thing clear about his Arsenal future

With all the speculation surrounding his future, Gabriel Jesus nipped that in the bud before it got out of control. He will not be leaving Arsenal in January, at least if it's down to him.

In his own words, Jesus said: “After such a complex surgery, it makes no sense for me to leave the club now.”

And those are the only words Arsenal fans needed to hear. This context is often lacking when journalists talk, a point that Jesus himself made, but it's an important context.

Not only does it make little sense for Jesus to leave Arsenal so soon after completing his surgery, but it makes even less sense for a club to sign him so soon after his surgery.

Instead, Jesus needs to prove himself at Arsenal. And there is certainly opportunity for him to do that.

Kai Havertz has been out of the team through injury, and many would argue that Viktor Gyökeres' position is not nailed on.

All that being said, Jesus does face a similar issue to Gyökeres, due to a completely different reason in his play style. Gyökeres is adapting to the Premier League, and making a name for himself outside of his goal-scoring ability, which we all know he's capable of. Jesus, on the other hand, does everything except score goals.

And that was the exact reason why Gyökeres was signed in the first place. Due to Jesus' and Havertz' playing styles, Arsenal needed a center forward who could actually score goals. Unfortunately, there is no belief that Jesus can be that guy going forward.
