A report by David Ornstein has revealed that Gabriel Martinelli could miss over a month of action for Arsenal after picking up a hamstring injury in Wednesday's defeat at Newcastle.

The Brazilian was withdrawn after just 37 minutes at St James' Park and according to the Athletic, the early indications are that he will be will be unavailable for the Gunners.

Martinelli's injury could see him be absent for a number of important games for Arsenal and given the current fitness situation at the club, that will be far from good news for fans.

Gabriel Martinelli could miss over a month with injury

Ornstein's report disclosed that with Martinelli potentially missing over a month of action for Arsenal, he could be unavailable for a number of important games.

Among those are trips to Leicester City and Nottingham Forest and sandwiched in between, a visit from West Ham. There is also a possibility he could miss a tough game at Manchester United and a home tie against Chelsea, both set to be played in March.

Both legs of the Champions League round of 16 are to be played either side of the meeting with London rivals Chelsea so if Martinelli's injury is as bad as reported, there is a possibility he could also miss these crucial games.

Mikel Arteta will be bitterly disappointed to lose yet another big-name attacking player. His side has already been plagued with injuries this season with Bukayo Saka still unavailable following surgery while Gabriel Jesus is set for an extended absence after suffering an ACL injury earlier in the year.

Martinelli has proved to be an important fixture in the Arsenal side this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 35 appearances. His role has become even more demanding in the absence of Saka as he has had to step in on the right wing on a number of occasions since December. Both his ability and versatility will be missed in the team.

The potentially lengthy absence will not only disappoint fans but it will also spark anger following the club's failure to act in the January transfer window. Martinelli's injury leaves the Gunners with just three fit options in Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling, as well as makeshift right winger Ethan Nwaneri.

Ornstein assured that there is no indication Martinelli will be absent for the remainder of the season and noted that he should be ready to return for the final two months of the campaign. While that is a positive to take from this news, Martinelli's absence will be very much felt over the foreseeable future.
