Arsenal fans are enjoying their time at the top of the summit at the moment. They have won all but two games this season, and did take a valuable point against Manchester City as well.

It may not have been perfect, but it has generally been really good for Arsenal, who just beat Fulham on Saturday to keep their hold on the top spot of the Premier League table.

Arsenal's defense will be crucial in their Premier League chase, and it has easily been their biggest asset in the last three years.

William Saliba and Gabriel are probably the best centre-back partnership in all of Europe, and it is just clear as day how much of an impact they have on the game every single week.

Arsenal's defense has been unreal under Mikel Arteta

In fact, their defensive partnership is so good that Arsenal just did something they haven't done since the 2003-04 season, where they won the trophy unbeaten - commonly dubbed as 'The Invincibles'.

They cannot be The Invincibles now, but they can certainly match records.

Arsenal, after the win over Fulham on Saturday, faced zero shots on target in consecutive Premier League games for the first time since the 2003-04 season, which was also the last time they won the trophy.

It is obvious that you need more than just a good defense to win the title. Arsenal have had the best defense in the Premier League for the last two seasons, but they still did not win the league in any of them.

However, this season, everything seems a bit different. There is a lot of creativity in midfield due to Eberechi Eze's brilliance. There's ball progression through Martin Zubimendi. There is defensive coverage from full-backs and the holding midfielder. The attack is easily their most stale part, but even that is improving every week. They still have Bukayo Saka.

All of these credentials make up for title contenders. And, if your defense is so good that you do not even face a shot on target over 180 minutes, then you are probably doing something right.

Gabriel and Saliba are Arsenal's starting defenders for years to come, and it could very well be that the biggest thing they want at Arsenal - which is to win titles - happens this season, and they'd play a big part in that.

There is still a long, long way to go, but Arsenal's defense is second to none at the moment, and it makes complete sense why they are one of the favorites.
