Only Michael Oliver could stop the burgeoning Myles Lewis-Skelly from continuing his ascent to stardom.

The teenager's taken no time to garner the faith of a demanding manager and has played a key role within his framework over the past six weeks. He recovered swiftly from a minor injury setback to feature at Wolves on Saturday, but his afternoon was cut short just before half-time thanks to an officating decision which has been ridiculed by the overwhelming majority.

Lewis-Skelly's cynical trip on Matt Doherty certainly wasn't clever, with a booking more than warranted, but Oliver, who's fetish for dishing out red to those in red has long been apparent, thought the 18-year-old's challenge entered the realm of 'serious foul play'. VAR agreed.

With a successful appeal unlikely, Lewis-Skelly will now serve a three-match ban. Cruel. Here are the games he's set to miss.

Arsenal are next in action on Wednesday night as they conclude what's been a hugely successful Champions League league phase against Girona. The Gunners are all but assured of a place in the round of 16 and are unlikely to even need a result in Catalonia to finish in the top eight.

As this is a UEFA competition, Lewis-Skelly's red card from the weekend has no bearing on his availability for Wednesday's game. Thus, expect Mikel Arteta to retain the teenager in his starting XI.

Lewis-Skelly's ban kicks in at the weekend when Manchester City visit the Emirates. The 18-year-old made his Premier League bow in the controversial, drama-laden reverse fixture back in September - picking up a late booking in the process.

Fortunately, Arteta has Riccardo Calafiori back available and the Italian proved to be the Gunners' unlikely match-winner at Molineux after Joao Gomes opted for justice and levelled up the playing field. Calafiori, who scored at the Etihad, will be in the team on Sunday. The Italian has had his fair share of injury concerns during his first few months at the club, but Arteta will be leaning on him after Girona.

Lewis-Skelly is also suspended for the second leg of Arsenal's Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle next Wednesday, with Arteta's side aiming to overturn a 2-0 deficit at St. James' Park.

We can only hope Calafiori's body holds up over the next seven days with Oleksandr Zinchenko, assuming he's still at the club, unlikely to be trusted on such occasions. Takehiro Tomiyasu is also out injured. There may be scope for Zinchenko to return to the team in two Saturdays time when we travel to Leicester in the early kick-off.

Lewis-Skelly will then be eligible to return the following week when West Ham come to town.
