Performance Analysis
There are small signs to suggest that Gyokeres' performance has improved from the Manchester United match. Importantly, the centre-forward made it through the whole match. Arteta will be delighted to get the full ninety into his target man.
After squandering a big chance early on, Gyokeres maintained his discipline with regard to positioning. He had clearly targeted the inside left channel from the kick-off and he continued to occupy both centre-backs throughout the match. Whilst limiting Gyokeres' touches to just 22, his discipline created room for Arsenal to exploit the wide areas and the spaces between the centre-backs and the full-backs.
Chances have been at a premium for Gyokeres in the opening two matches. At Old Traffford he didn't have a single shot. Against Leeds, aside from the penalty, Gyokeres had only two shots. The easiest chance was the easiest to score but the Swede made up for it with a well taken solo-effort. Gyokeres' goal from open play exceeds the xG 0.5.
More touches inside the opponents' penalty box
Six touches inside the opponents box was double the three Gyokeres managed at Old Trafford. It's still not enough and reflects the poor delivery from both flanks, particularly in the first half.
The manager should be disappointed with Gyokeres' link up play. An accurate pass rate of just 44% reflects a weakness in the forward's game that he will need to improve upon.
As far as Gyokeres' general play is concerned, there is still some room for improvement and it's too early to celebrate a new dawn. The big test comes next week. Two more goals from Gyokeres at Anfield would certainly help his argument.
