Arsenal might not land its top striker targets this summer.
Arsenal and its striker search has seen the candidates Mikel Arteta reportedly wants be narrowed down to two players.
Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres.
With Sesko thought to be at the top of Arsenal's wish list, in truth, fans would likely be happy with either walking through the Emirates door.
Given the lack of goal-scoring power for the last 24 months, it is crucial that the Gunners get some reinforcements in because we can only imagine the media coverage and backlash if Arsenal begins the 2025/26 season with Kai Havertz up front.
But while we have heard that things are moving in a positive direction, the latest news which has just dropped will leave Arsenal fans shaking their heads.
New striker update throws Gunners' plans into chaos
We know that the Gunners aren't able to go and spend absurd amounts of money on a striker, otherwise Newcastle frontman Alexander Isak would be "the" guy for Arsenal.
But also, the Gunners know they won't likely get the difference-maker up top without a sizable investment.
And this is where things get awfully sticky.
Per Florian Plettenberg of Sky, the Gunners are reportedly not willing to fork out the cash needed to sign either Sesko (€80–100m) or Gyokeres (€60–70m).
Plettenberg also states that the Gunners are in contact with Sesko's "camp" but so far, no formal offer has been received. As for Viktor, Arsenal is currently monitoring the situation.
Cue the collective head shaking of Gunners fans.
Most know that if the club wants to get a true difference-maker up top, they are going to have to part ways with a significant fee.
And it appears that right now, at least, the Gunners and Andrea Berta aren't willing to do so, which now puts the club in a bind. Where do they go from here? Do they try and negotiate a better deal for less money?
That feels like the play here, but news coming through that the Gunners aren't willing to fork out the necessary money to land a striker, which might be the final piece to their title-winning puzzle, isn't what fans want to hear.
