Granit Xhaka is coming back to England! Fabrizio Romano has just given the former Arsenal captain a 'Here We Go' status for his Sunderland move.
You'd have a difficult time finding a case like Granit Xhaka's. The Swiss international once swore at the Arsenal fans, essentially telling them to get lost (albeit, in a much less family-friendly way). Yet still, he was given a standing ovation on his final game, and fans were begging him to stay,
This is because Xhaka worked hard to make a name for himself again after seemingly losing the Arsenal fans. Under Mikel Arteta most notably, he became one of the best players of the 2022-23 Premier League season.
Granit Xhaka is coming back to the Premier League
Now, after a few years in the Bundesliga (even winning it, no less), Granit Xhaka is coming back to the Premier League. He is due to sign for Sunderland, in a move which no fan could have predicted a few seasons ago.
Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Xhaka will be on his way to Sunderland, after Bayer Leverkusen gave the green light for him to make the switch. It'll be a €20m transfer, and Romano has even said "Here we go."
In his own words, Fabrizio Romano said: Granit Xhaka to Sunderland, here we go! A deal was agreed between all parties involved. Understand fee will be €20m, contract until 2027. Green light from Bayer Leverkusen for the player to fly today and complete his move, one more ambitious signing.
Sunderland has an Arsenal legend on their roster now
Sunderland is not messing around. They recently returned to the Premier League, where many argued they belonged, and they're here to stay.
If Xhaka does sign, which it seems like he will now, he'll join a great list of signings. Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra, Enzo Le Fee, Chemsdine Talbi, Noah Sadiki and Reinildo Mandava will all arrive this summer, a true statement of intent from the Black Cats.
Most of those signings are young players, with the future in mind. If Xhaka's last season at Arsenal and his title-winning season at Leverkusen are anything to go by, then his experience is invaluable when it comes to mentoring young players.
There is no bad blood between Arsenal fans and Granit Xhaka. In fact, there's incredible respect. He'll be given a great reception when he returns to the Emirates Stadium in February.
