Arsenal could take a huge step towards Champions League qualification in the next two league games.
We spoke at length in the last couple of weeks about how Arsenal's slide that gifted Liverpool the league title (still mathematically in it) could also see the club get dragged into a fight it wanted no part of.
The race for a Champions League spot.
With the Gunners steadying the ship somewhat with a draw at Manchester United and a 1-0 win over Chelsea, now sees Mikel Arteta's side four points clear of Nottingham Forest in third and nine points clear of Chelsea with nine games left.
So as things stand, one could say that it is rather delicately poised for the Gunners, and they are perhaps right on the brink of getting dragged into a fight that they might not have the weaponry to get out of.
But when we look at the next couple of Premier League games, a glorious chance is there for Arsenal to not only put pressure on Forest and Chelsea, but to also take a big step towards Champions League qualification in the process.
Can Arsenal take advantage of next two league games?
The Gunners face Fulham at home before a trip away to Everton, and both, one could, say, Arsenal "should" be winning, but as we know, without a recognized striker, anything can happen.
But when we look at the next two fixtures of Forest and Chelsea, it is here where the Gunners' glorious chance is revealed.
Forest face Manchester United at home, and then Aston Villa away. Two tough games.
Then we look at Chelsea. Tottenham at home and then Brentford away. Again, tough outings.
If the Gunners can manage to win their two games, and Forest and Chelsea either drop points in both, or in a best-case scenario, lose, Arsenal would then open up a huge gap between the chasing pair.
Of course, we know it is never that simple, but both Forest and Chelsea, in their next games against United and Tottenham, have tough outings ahead of them, and in a sense, so does Arsenal against 8th placed Fulham.
But right now, any win is like gold and the Gunners, while on the verge of getting sucked into a Champions League dogfight, can put some serious separation between themselves and the chasing pack.
Can they do it?
