Porto player Jakub Kiwior has just destroyed one of the biggest misconceptions about Mikel Arteta's style of management in a recent interview.

The Polish defender, who is on loan at Porto from Arsenal, has enjoyed his stay in Portugal so far.

He is getting much more game time than he was at Arsenal, and he also has a bigger role, as he no longer has to play the eternally grateful squad player role anymore. He starts many games, and is an important part of Porto's set up.

The move made complete sense for him, as after signing so many good defenders, it was tough to see Kiwior getting any minutes at Arsenal this season.

The player opened up about this and about how he broke the news to Arteta, in the interview.

Jakub Kiwior felt 'understood and supported' by Mikel Arteta

He said: “The earlier conversation, when I asked for the loan, was more difficult. I’d never done this before, but I felt the time had come to speak with him face to face. He understood me and supported me.

“As for Arsenal and Porto, league-wise, it might seem like a step back, but club-wise, it’s absolutely not. At Porto, I have what I lacked in London: regular playing time. I feel great here."

Obviously, it is going to be a tough conversation either way. No one likes to see a brilliant squad player like Kiwior leave the club. The off-pitch qualities are also what make players great, which Kiwior is, in his own right.

The way he turned up against Real Madrid was huge. Gabriel's absence was huge, but it did not feel as big because of the type of performance that Kiwior put in last season.

Be that as it may, many people have the opinion that Arteta does not care about the players he has, and the players who leave or stay, he does not really care about.

It is obvious now that he does. The fact that it was a difficult conversation for Kiwior to have shows that Arteta cared a lot more than the media gave him credit for.

The fact that Arteta supported and helped Kiwior find a club after this - with everything that has been mentioned in this article - also shows that he put the player's interests ahead of his own.

Arteta has proven time and time again that he is a really good and affectionate coach. About time people realise it.
