Arsenal fans were expecting much more from this performance than what they got. Arsenal needed a win to go seven points clear at the top of the league table.

However, a really poor display against Chelsea made sure that Arsenal only stayed five points ahead of Manchester City, who won against Burnley on Saturday.

Five points is not a bad advantage to have, nowhere near, but the fact that it could have been seven would irk fans a little.

However, it is also worth noting that this draw is not the worst thing that could have happened on the night.

Chelsea legend John Terry certainly believes so. He certainly believes this game was Chelsea's, and they should have won by more. That is also something that Arsenal fans will probably already know. They won't really feel bad about it, because a game like this demanded a better performance from their team.

Terry said: ‘I thought Chelsea were by far the better team, regardless of spending the majority of the game down to 10 men. But I thought the first half, there was only one team on the front foot looking to win the game and showing aggression.

‘It’s a London derby, and that’s what we want to see from our players. Flying into tackles, a little bit of aggression. Unfortunately, the referee has killed the game by handing out three yellow cards in the first 15 minutes and taking the sting out of it.

‘No arguments with the Caicedo one, I think that’s a red card, and unfortunately he’s going to be a big miss for us. But overall, I thought there was one team trying to win the game and that was us. I thought we were very good going forward, we were direct, really quick on the counter as well. We were solid defensively.’

Terry said Chelsea were 'by far the better team', and they were the only team on the front foot looking to win the game.

That is a rough one for Arsenal fans, but it is also an assessment that fans would not necessarily disagree with.

Arsenal really were bad, and there were a lot of expectations on them to perform well, especially after the win over Bayern Munich.

However, it is one extra point, and Arteta will go back into the dressing room thinking about what to do to improve the results.
