Jurriën Timber did what no other Arsenal player did against Liverpool

Jurriën Timber was the sole standout for a well below standard Arsenal as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Liverpool.

Taking up his usual right back position, the Dutchman didn't seem to give up as he looked to help out in attack by making constant runs on the overlap and tracking back to defend when needed.

It was a really poor team performance by the Gunners with not many players seeming to rise to the occasion, but Timber was the one who did with his restless performance against the Reds.

Throughout this season, one of the best components of Timber's game has been his marauding runs down the right flank while linking up with Bukayo Saka. That was the case once again against Liverpool as he looked to cause problems in any way he can.

The Netherlands international made four progressive carries and one successful take-on (out of one attempted) as he constantly supported Saka on the overlap. His marauding runs continued even when the winger was taken off for Noni Madueke, with Timber still offering support where needed.

He played a crucial part in what would've been the winning goal for his side when he chested down a brilliant long ball from Martín Zubimendi and turned before knocking it out to Madueke, who darted into the box, only for no one to meet his cross.

Timber didn't let his attacking duties prevent him from fulfilling his primary defensive role though as he worked well to keep Liverpool's left side quiet. Cody Gakpo was allowed next to nothing throughout the night as his compatriot did well to mark him whenever needed.

Arsenal's right back wasn't required to make any tackles, but he did block a shot, make one interception and three clearances to help his side keep a clean sheet despite their lacklustre performance.

Taking on a Liverpool side that are nowhere near the quality they were last season and presented with the opportunity to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, the Gunners should have played them off the park, but failed to do so.

Instead, they looked cowardly, with no real intent of pressuring the Reds' defence, barring a few attacking sequences, with none of the squad seeming to rise to the occasion, other than Timber.

Offering everything he could in attack and defence, it was clear he knew what was at stake and he did his utmost to help his side to victory, but his performance wasn't rewarded due to subpar showings by his teammates.

Arsenal were bitterly disappointing against Liverpool, but Jurriën Timber is one player who can hold his head high.
