Jurriën Timber went down injured in the match against Everton. It was a memorable match for Arsenal as Max Dowman broke the all-time Premier League record to become the league's youngest ever goal scorer. However, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, since Arsenal lost one of their most important players.
As Arsenal look ahead to the Carabao Cup final this weekend, many Arsenal fans are hoping to see their Dutch defender back in contention. That said, what's the latest on Jurriën Timber's injury, and what has Mikel Arteta said about it recently?
What injury does Jurriën Timber have?
When Jurriën Timber went down against Everton, he was seen holding his leg in discomfort while being seen to by Arsenal's physio.
Initially, it was believed that Jurriën Timber would be fine to carry on. However, that optimism was squashed when he was replaced just before the interval. In his place, Cristhian Mosquera came on for Arsenal and he barely put a foot wrong.
When will Jurriën Timber return from injury?
Jurriën Timber could return from injury as soon as this weekend. Mikel Arteta has not yet ruled out Timber, and if anything, the Spanish boss appears to be pretty positive about his return.
When questioned about Timber and Martin Ødegaard, who is also facing a spell out of the team, Mikel Arteta said "Yeah, we have another session, let's see."
Naturally, Arteta is keeping his cards close to his chest. If he knows something about Timber, he is unlikely to reveal it to the media. Heck, Chelsea do enough early revealing, Arsenal can't follow that same trend.
Who can replace Jurriën Timber at Arsenal?
It is already pretty clear who Mikel Arteta will call upon if Jurriën Timber is injured. Hopefully he's available, but if not, Ben White will get the nod at right-back.
Mosquera came on to replace Timber initially, but it won't be him who plays this weekend. Ben White played against Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, and if anything, the Englishman proved he's still got a lot to give to this team.
Of course, the one concern with starting Ben White would be that he's not seen too much of the ball this season. In a game as big as this, that has to cross Mikel Arteta's mind.
Nevertheless, Ben White is more comfortable with playing at right-back than Mosquera. It's neither player's natural position, but White has seen it become his position over the last few seasons.
