Kai Havertz recently returned from a lengthy injury setback. Of course, he took some initially, but now, the Germany international is back. He's revealed that he's ready to play 90 minutes whenever Arsenal or his country needs him.
In his own words, Kai Havertz said: "I now feel completely fit. I need the one or other game from the start to reach 100 percent but I feel fit to start lasting over 90 minutes.”
Right as Arsenal prepare for the Premier League title race to reach its most pivotal stage, along with the FA Cup and the Champions League heating up, Havertz couldn't have declared himself fit at a better time.
Viktor Gyökeres' competition is FRESH
Kai Havertz is in competition for a place with Viktor Gyökeres. It's pretty unanimously agreed that his best position is at centre forward, rather than the midfield position he was originally signed to play. However, playing Havertz in his strongest position directly impacts Gyökeres.
It remains up in the air about who is the better option of Gyökeres and Havertz. Admittedly, they both could be used in the team, but at centre forward, the best option is Havertz.
This is why, with every game between now and the season being a 'big game', Mikel Arteta should lean towards starting Havertz, particularly if he's ready to be playing the full match.
Nevertheless, Gyökeres will still get the minutes he deserves. It would be surprising if, barring injury, there's a game in the season's run-in that the Swedish striker doesn't play in, even if coming from the bench. Gyökeres has already proven that he can be a threat when arriving late into a match.
Kai Havertz has some time to catch up on his fitness levels
Kai Havertz is about to embark on a double-whammy international break. Germany are already qualified for this year's World Cup, but they will play friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana.
The Germany national team is obviously flooded with talent, but many would argue they haven't hit the heights since winning the World Cup in 2014. It almost feels like after Mario Götze scored that goal in added time, Germany haven't been the same. The same could be said for Götze himself, by the way.
Nevertheless, Kai Havertz is still held in high regard by Germany. He is a Champions League and Club World Cup winner. Hopefully, from Arsenal's perspective, he will add to that with at least a Premier League title by the end of this season.
No matter which way you look at it, Arteta needs his strongest players available in the run-in. He just got treated to one more in Havertz.
