Kim Little reflects on the exact moment she knew Arsenal was for her

Kim Little continues to be a bona fide Arsenal legend.

As well as being a North London derby that yielded three important WSL points, Saturday's 5-2 demolition of Tottenham was unofficially Kim Little day at Emirates Stadium. Earlier in the week, the 35 year old club captain signed a new one-year contract extension, much to the delight of all supporters.

Speaking to The Players Tribune, Kim Little reflected on first joining Arsenal from Hibernian 18 years ago: "This was 2008. They’d just won the quadruple. Probably the best team in the world at the time. The team was filled with icons. I was 17 and still living at home … and I just went…. Okay. I’ll go play for Arsenal now."

Arsenal wouldn't approach the Kim Little era any other way

Well, fair to say this decision has paid off for both player and club. The Scotland international surpassed 400 appearance for Arsenal against OH Leuven in the Champions League last month, only the third women in the club's history to do so, after Emma Byrne (459) and Ciara Grant (403)

As a celebration of her new contract, Little walked out alongside her nieces and nephew ahead of Saturday's North London derby. She then looked over to her left at the North Bank to see a gigantic banner in her honour that read "Leader. Legend. Little". The midfielder was uncharacteristically emotional about this, having this to say afterwards:

"What the club did for me today. With obviously my family being here and celebrating that, to have them all together and then the big banner. Yeah, the best surprise ever. I didn't expect that, coming out and looking to my left and that feeling of pride to represent the club and to know how appreciative people are of that longevity and loyalty I've had here. Yeah, that's a moment I won't forget."

Well, while everyone has been celebrating what Little has achieved to date, winning 17 major trophies across two spells with Arsenal, she will continue to be a key figure for Renée Slegers' team going forward to.

On Wednesday, the Gunners will seek to reach the Champions League semi-finals, 3-1 up from the first leg of their quarter-final clash with Chelsea. Having won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge as recently as January, a repeat scoreline in West London would go down a treat.

Then, on Sunday, Arsenal will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Borehamwood in the FA Cup. They are the record, 14-times winners of the competition, but the most-recent of these triumphs came a decade ago, not featuring in any of the last four finals, something they're determined to put right. Little has already hoisted the Champions League and FIFA Women's Champions Cup trophies aloft in the last 12 months, so will more soon follow?
