Leandro Trossard international break injury adds to Arsenal's woes
- Leandro Trossard sustained knock during Belgium's defeat to Israel
- Trossard was forced off in first half with impact injury
- The forward's potential injury to add to Arsenal's fitness woes
Arsenal couldn't escape the November international break without another injury concern as Leandro Trossard was forced off during Belgium's shock defeat to Israel on Sunday night.
These breaks have been cruel to the Gunners this season with the likes of Riccardo Calafiori, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard sustaining injuries while representing their respective national teams. Most damagingly, Arsenal lost captain Odegaard for almost two months after he picked up an ankle ligament injury in September.
And while Odegaard, Saka, and Declan Rice all remained in London Colney during the ongoing break - thankfully the last until next March - ten Gunners have been in action for their countries, with Trossard succumbing in Belgium's final 2024/25 UEFA Nations League group game.
Leandro Trossard international break injury adds to Arsenal's woes
At this stage, there is very little information in regard to the knock Trossard sustained on Sunday night. The Arsenal forward was forced off after 37 minutes against Israel as Belgium's poor Nations League campaign drew to a close with a shock 1-0 defeat.
It's believed that Trossard is dealing with an impact injury as opposed to any sort of muscular problem, but a timescale for his potential return is not yet easy to work out.
Arsenal leant on Trossard while Odegaard was absent, but the Belgian international was mightily poor between the October and November breaks having initially thrived in a free-roaming function. Despite his poor run of form, the Gunners can ill afford injuries in attack given the dearth of options. While Trossard is due a demise to the bench, his ability to change games as a substitute and produce in the clutch has already proven to be immensely valuable for Mikel Arteta's side.
If he does face a period on the sidelines, Arteta would have to lean on Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling to mitigate his absence.
Trossard may face a race against time to be involved this weekend as Arsenal aim to ignite their Premier League campaign with a home clash against the in-form Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Saka, Rice, and Odegaard are all hoping to be available for the Gunners' upcoming bout, while Calafiori is expected to be fit to feature after a spell out due to a knee injury.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is also closing in on a comeback having made just one appearance all season, and Arsenal are going to need him while Ben White sits out after undergoing minor knee surgery.
