The legend of springtime Eze just got a lot more real for Arsenal

How crucial could Eberechi Eze be to Arsenal's hopes of silverware?

As Arsenal continue to search for regular, elite-level attacking difference makers, could Eberechi Eze be that man during the final few weeks of this season? On Saturday, his absolute rocket proved decisive as the Gunners battled to a 1-0 victory over Newcastle that was crucial and nervy in equal measure. That was his tenth goal for the club, of which just the half have come during two meetings with Spurs. However, could that tally be set to substantially increase before the end of the season?

Upon his arrival, swapping South London for North, Crystal Palace supporters made it clear to their Arsenal counterparts that "springtime Eze" is a force to be reckoned with. So, is the 27-year-old really better at this time of year?

Saturday's thunderous strike was Eze's tenth Premier League goal scored in April, making this his joint-most productive month, alongside May. Almost 50% of all top-flight goals the England international has scored have come during the final two months of the campaign.

So, can he fire Arsenal to glory in the Premier League or Champions League or perhaps both between now and the end of the campaign?

It is worth acknowledging that Eze was forced off due to an injury shortly after half time against Newcastle, replaced by Gabriel Martinelli. Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, he said that he was completely fine, albeit he did say the same after coming off against Bayer Leverkusen, only to then sit out the next three matches, including a Wembley cup final, so who knows.

Nevertheless, having Eze available in the Spanish capital on Wednesday and beyond will surely be a massive help as Mikel Arteta seeks to construct a cohesive and potent forward line. He appears to finally be forming a partnership with Martin Ødegaard, after the pair have barely been able to play together all season long. Neither Martinelli nor Leandro Trossard have been at their best for a while, so Eze is certainly the first-choice option on the left flank, assuming he is available.

Kai Havertz will miss out, but potentially having the returning Bukayo Saka, Ødegaard and Eze in-behind top-scorer Viktor Gyökeres should be a quartet capable of causing Atleti plenty of problems. The forecast suggests that it will be heavily raining in Madrid come Wednesday night but, whatever the weather, Eze becomes pretty unstoppable once we enter springtime.
