Arsenal came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield and secure a crucial point in their hunt to secure Champions League football, despite going down to ten players late in the second half.

Mikel Arteta was forced to make two changes to the side fell to Paris Saint-Germain with Declan Rice absent from the squad due to injury and Jurrien Timber dropping to the bench. Ben White came in on the right side of defence while Leandro Trossard was brought in to accommodate Mikel Merino shifting to midfield.

A quiet opening period saw both sides cause some trouble in the final third, but it was Liverpool who struck first. A quickly taken throw to Andy Robertson allowed him to catch out the Gunners defence with a good cross for Cody Gakpo to head in at the near post.

It took the hosts less than 90 seconds to double their lead as a quick break away saw Dominik Szoboszlai make his way into the Arsenal box before squaring for Luis Diaz to slide into an empty net. Arteta's side upped the ante following the second and despite some positive signs in their build-up around the Liverpool, box they went into the break two goals down.

The Gunners came out for the second half with a burst of energy and pulled one back just minutes in. Trossard played a well-weighted cross that Gabriel Martinelli knocked past Alisson with a deft header. The Brazilian went close to bringing his side level when he poked an effort toward goal from a free kick, but was thwarted by his international comrade.

Arsenal continued to cause problems and keep Liverpool pinned back and were eventually rewarded with 20 minutes remaining. Martin Odegaard lined up a strike from long range that Alisson tipped onto the post, but Merino was on hand to head into an empty net.

The Spaniard undid his own and his side's hard work as they headed into the closing stages when he slid in on Szoboszlai before being shown a second yellow card and given his marching orders.

A dramatic finish ensued with Liverpool putting plenty of pressure on the Gunners in search of a win. Arsenal went close to stealing the three points however when Odegaard intercepted a pass in midfield before driving forward and firing a low effort just past the post. The hosts thought then thought they had won it through Robertson, who tapped in from close range after a David Raya save, but the offside flag went up.

Arsenal salvaging a point at Anfield keeps them two points clear of third-placed Newcastle and three points above Manchester City. The Gunners are yet to secure Champions League football, but took a step closer to doing so with a crucial comeback draw.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 7/10 - Could have raced out to challenge for the long ball ahead of Liverpool's opener. Made a good save to deny Diaz early on but not much he could do about either goal. Prevented van Dijk scoring a headed winner in stoppage time.

Ben White (RB) - 7/10 - Struggled in the first half but improved after the break. Made some good runs forward and troubled Alisson with a shot from a tight angle. Taken off with just over 10 minutes remaining.

William Saliba (CB) - 6.5/10 - Allowed Diaz to get away for the hosts' second, but tightened up to keep Liverpool out following half-time.

Jakub Kiwior (CB) - 6.5/10 - Like Saliba, had an off opening half but found his feet after the break and helped keep the hosts at bay.

Myles Lewis-Skelly (LB) - 7/10 - Dealt with the always dangerous Salah relatively well, but was sometimes guilty of leaving the left side open due to his inverted role. Made a charging run forward at the start of the second half.
