Max Dowman could take on a new role with Arsenal to fix a long-standing issue

In the summer, Arsenal sold Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, signing only one player, Christos Tzolis, to fill the gap. This has left Arsenal with few options on the left wing, with Eberechi Eze trying (but admittedly failing) to ease those concerns.

There is nothing stopping Max Dowman from taking on a new role, helping Arsenal out on the left wing. In fact, that's an understatement. It's a role change that would benefit every party.

Max Dowman could help Arsenal out on the left-wing

Max Dowman is superb. He is very much the man of the moment, despite not being much of a man just yet. The 16-year-old recently stole the headlines again with his dazzling performance against Ipswich, scoring a brace and registering an assist in the Carabao Cup game.

What struck me the most about Dowman's performance, among many great traits, is how comfortable he was in every position on the pitch.

His most notable involvement was his first goal, breaking the deadlock for Arsenal. The goal was courtesy of some perfect play on the left-hand side of the pitch, and it was fully orchestrated by Dowman. He picked up possession for Arsenal, dribbled excellently, produced some light footwork to open up a shot, and slotted home with aplomb.

Dowman's dribbling allowed him to be direct. This is everything that Tzolis is, but Eze isn't.

Max Dowman is still incredibly young. He has his entire future ahead of him, and he doesn't need to explain any career moves to anyone at this stage.

It must be said, though, that all the signs point towards Dowman helping out at left-wing. He is not nailed into any position yet, but Arsenal needs help at left-wing, and Dowman has all the minerals in the world to provide that help.

Mikel Arteta has reminded Arsenal fans over and over again that they must be patient with Dowman. He is not going to play weekly for the first team, and that's understandable. Heck, he's still a whole decade away from being in his prime, after all.

We will naturally see more of Dowman as his development progresses. From what we've seen of him so far, though, we can make the assumption that he is at least up to the task of playing on the left.

Between now and the end of the season, particularly in cup games or from the bench in the Premier League, it would be great to see Dowman registering more minutes out on the left.
