Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said new signing Christos Tzolis shares similarities with former Arsenal player Leandro Trossard after the Gunners beat Girona 4-1 in Ireland.
Trossard recently moved on from Arsenal to join Besiktas, and Tzolis was brought in to presumably become the next starter on Arsenal's left wing spot.
Tzolis made his debut for Arsenal in the first friendly of the season against Girona and was able to get on the scoresheet in the 30th minute as well. He had a generally very good performance and did not look out of place.
After the match, Arteta was full of praise for the youngster.
He said: "I'm very pleased with him. First of all, the way he has adapted to the club, to the team. The connection he's already generated with the boys. I think you're going to love the player.
"He's a very direct player. He's got the ball between the eyes. I think really good at linking up. He has a lot of similarities with Leo in a lot of the things that he can do and the spaces he can occupy.
"And then the work ethic that he has. He's a boy that comes with so much hunger as well and wants to prove it. It's a dream for him and we are here to help him."
There are hints of Leandro Trossard's game in Christos Tzolis'
Arteta's comparison was actually very true, very accurate. Tzolis is a very exciting player who had a brilliant season in Belgium last campaign. He's only 24 years old, so he will keep improving over the next few years, which is brilliant news for Arsenal because the talent that he's already shown is of a very high level.
Like Trossard, Tzolis loves to play on the left wing. He likes to use his right foot quite a bit, and he enjoys playing in the left half-space, very similar to how the Belgian international used to do at Arsenal.
He also works hard defensively, even though we didn't really get to see that against Girona on Saturday.
It will be interesting to see how the 24-year-old manages his time in England once again. Obviously, he has played in England before with Norwich, but he has improved a lot as a player since then.
As it stands, Tzolis will be the starter at Arsenal, which is a huge mantle to take if VinĂcius JĂşnior does not arrive at the club.
There is a big chance of the Brazilian not joining, and Arsenal not signing anyone else before the end of the summer transfer window. That would mean Tzolis has a much bigger role than he might have thought he would in the last few weeks.
It is difficult to judge him off one game for the club, but he looked good, he looked strong, and he didn't look out of place, which is also what Arteta said about the Greek international.
