Mikel Arteta should listen to this pundit's horrendous Leandro Trossard take on mute

Arsenal fans will be perplexed by the comments made by Chris Waddle over one of their most consistent performers this season.

The Gunners have been able to rely on an ultra-strong squad with depth across the board this season - and it's something Mikel Arteta demanded ahead of this term.

Leandro Trossard's impressive campaign

The competition has brought the best out of a number of players, and one of them is Leandro Trossard. The Belgian is somewhere between a winger and an attacking midfielder, and that has seen him struggle for consistency out wide at times during his Arsenal career.

But he has kicked on in a major way this season, rising above the competition to become a clear starter on the left side. The Belgian has managed eight goals and 10 assists, and he is in line to start the Champions League final this weekend, showing how much he has come on from the last couple of seasons when he has been more of a supplementary player.

Chris Waddle disagrees

Despite Trossard's clear progression, Chris Waddle believes Arsenal should consider selling him this summer and upgrading on the left side.

"I think they need to be looking at another winger on the left-hand side because Leandro Trossard isn’t really a winger," Waddle told Boyle Sports. "He’s been converted into one. Trossard has done well. I’m not saying he hasn’t. He’s a dangerous player but I don’t think he’s a good enough winger."

"Somebody like Anthony Gordon would be a good acquisition or maybe even Jarrod Bowen. He would be a player who could play in this Arsenal team. I know he likes to play down the right and that’s where Bukayo Saka is but he could do a job down the left and he’d get you goals and work hard for the team."

Waddle's opinion is not likely to be one Arsenal fans agree with after this season, and the truth is, Gabriel Martinelli is now firmly below Trossard in the pecking order, meaning the Brazilian is more likely to be sold this summer.

Trossard has proven himself this season, and so the timing of the comment is baffling, especially before a Champions League final that Trossard is likely to start, and could yet make a big impact in.

This simply isn't the time to be speculating over summer moves, with more work to do for the Gunners before they start planning for next season. And one could certainly argue that this summer as a whole is not the time to discuss the possibility of selling Trossard, given his form this season.
