Viktor Gyokeres, for a lack of a better phrase, has not exactly hit the ground running at Arsenal so far in his career.

He has scored a few goals - and one of them was very important in the game against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup - but generally speaking, Gyokeres has fallen short of the expectations set for him after that record-breaking season he had at Sporting.

It was obviously going to be a few steps up for him to move from Portugal to return to England, this time in the top flight, but it has not been the best start.

Gyokeres has shown a few flashes of brilliance, and has shown signs of slight improvement in the last game or two, but there is a lot of work to do before Gyokeres is able to truly look comfortable wearing Arsenal's white and red.

Mikel Arteta made a Kai Havertz realization that Viktor Gyökeres won't love

It does not help the Swedish international that the two players currently fighting him for the starting spot are coming back from injury, and one of those players will always get love from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Arteta was recently asked about Havertz and what he brings to the table, and how excited he is to have him back, to which he said things that Gyokeres could potentially use as a motivating factor.

He said: "Obviously we missed him a lot. A year is a long time in football but as you said, the way he’s come back, he looks really fit, really confident.

“He’s such an intelligent player that straight away he is someone who connects with the players really naturally, and you can tell how much they love him as well, because every time he was in and around the box, everyone was jumping on their seats on the bench.

“So yeah, we are so happy to have him, he’s going to help us so much, and now we have to keep him fit.”

Kai Havertz, who made his long-awaited return to the football pitch in the 3-2 win over Chelsea in the Carbao Cup earlier this week, is finally back, and Arteta loves it.

It was important for the German forward to get a few minutes on the pitch to get the feel of the game back, and it was also important from a mental standpoint.

However, it does raise a bit of an alarm bell for Gyokeres, who would have to prove to Arteta that much harder how he wants to remain a starter.
