Arsenal have a mountain to climb when they face Newcastle in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.
The Gunners were made to pay for a wasteful showing in the first leg at the start of 2025, with the efficient Magpies scoring on either side of the half-time whistle to leave themselves in a very strong position. Arsenal are 2-0 behind, but there's plenty of football to be played and Newcastle have lost back-to-back games at St. James' Park.
Bournemouth and Fulham have both had success on Tyneside since the first leg, offering Arsenal hope, and Mikel Arteta's side are in the highest of sprits following their stellar 5-1 triumph over the champions on Sunday afternoon.
While the Magpies have shown signs of fatigue in recent outings, Arsenal seem to be growing once more and have every chance of pulling off what many deemed an unlikely comeback a few weeks ago.
Here's our preview of Newcastle vs Arsenal in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Newcastle team news
Joelinton is a fresh injury concern for the hosts, with the midfielder limping off during the second half of Newcastle's defeat to Fulham on Saturday. He's going to see a knee specialist ahead of the second leg and is a major doubt to feature.
Joe Willock is the most likely to come in for the Brazilian if he cannot feature. Bruno Guimaraes was suspended for the first leg but is eligible to return on Wednesday.
Nick Pope has been included in Howe's previous two matchday squads without starting, but he could come back into the starting XI here. Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes, and Jamaal Lascelles are sidelined.
Predicted Newcastle lineup vs Arsenal: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Willock; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.
Arsenal team news
There are unlikely to be changes from the team that started on Sunday, although Ethan Nwaneri is the most likely to come into the XI after yet another impressive cameo. The teenage starlet has proven himself to be the most Bukayo Saka-like alternative down Arsenal's right.
The Gunners' injury situation hasn't changed since the weekend, with no fresh concerns to report. Ben White should be back after the trip to Dubai.
Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Takehiro Tomiyasu are sidelined.
Predicted Arsenal lineup vs Newcastle: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Nwaneri, Havertz, Trossard.
Newcastle vs Arsenal score prediction
Momentum is certainly in Arsenal's favour, and we should be encouraged from the manner of Newcastle's recent home defeats. The energy and intensity which manifests at their best, making them so hard to play again, just hasn't been there.
I suspect the hosts will be up for it on Wednesday and intent on turning the second leg into a gruelling affair. They're capable of keeping Arsenal at arm's length, but the Gunners will create chances. Can they make the most of the moments they couldn't take on home soil?
I think Arteta's side get close and turn this into a nervy cup tie, but the 2-0 deficit will prove just a little too much to overcome.
