Arsenal find themselves in a cushty position midway through the November international break as they sit at the top of the Premier League table after 11 games, but despite their brilliance, there is one statistic that no one would have expected them to lead.

The Gunners have picked up just 11 yellow cards in the league this season and having picked up no reds, they currently lead the English top flight's discipline chart.

Over the years, Mikel Arteta's side have attracted a reputation for their hot-headedness on the pitch, leading the team to often be near the top of the card table. However, it looks as if they have managed to turn that around, much to the surprise of many.

Arsenal came under much criticism and scrutiny for their poor discipline last season with many claiming that was a major factor in their failure to win the Premier League.

At this stage of last campaign, the Gunners had already picked up 30 yellow cards and three reds with a number of those coming due to poor decision making. Two of the dismissals came as Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard were given their marching orders for kicking the ball away, against Brighton and Manchester City respectively.

The failure to maintain their discipline was clear at the end of last term as they ended the season with 70 yellows and six reds, the most dismissals of any team in the league. The poor behaviour did hinder them massively as they ultimately finished second in the table, 10 points off champions Liverpool.

Those discipline issues have played a crucial part in Arsenal failing to pick up silverware in recent years, but they look to have finally rid themselves of that reputation as hot-heads they have attracted.

After being shown four yellow cards in their season opener at Manchester United, the Gunners have only seen players booked against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Newcastle, Burnley and Sunderland since.

Arteta isn't exactly a dirty or dangerous manager and his team are very far from that. Their tendency to pick up multiple bookings has usually been down to stupid decisions, timewasting and on occasion, poor refereeing.

That did lead them to garner a reputation as a poor discipline side and that is why rival fans and the media won't have expected Arsenal to boast the record so far this season. Behavioural standards on the pitch can have a big impact on a campaign's outcomes and if the Gunners can continue controlling their tempers, they could reap the rewards.
