Oktoberfest! What Arsenal are about to do will have Liverpool spooked by Halloween

Arsenal's last gasp win at Newcastle lifted them up to second, just two points behind leaders Liverpool – and the reds are getting spooked.

Arsenal are grinding through the gears after a tough run of fixtures presented them with a challenging start to the season. Having risen to that challenge, Arsenal now face a more forgiving run of games that should have the champions looking nervously over their shoulder.

October looks to be a very promising month for Arsenal. Having battled through August, picking up two wins and succumbing to their only defeat of the season so far, the Gunners went unbeaten through September and ghosted into second place.

Late goals against Manchester City and Newcastle United ensured that the Arsenal secured four points against tough opposition and exorcised the St James' curse of recent times.

Should Arsenal get maximum points from their three matches in October, they could find themselves top before the pumpkins get carved for halloween.

As the evenings draw in ever closer and the temperatures begin to drop close to freezing, Liverpool's unbeaten run has come to an unlikely end.

Like a vampire from Arsenal's recent past, Eddie Nketiah sank his teeth into the reds at Selhurst Park and sucked the life out of the Premier League champions with a winner seven minutes into injury time.

Things could get even better for Arsenal next weekend when a home win against West Ham would see the Gunners go above Liverpool, if only for a few hours. The reds visit Chelsea in the 5.30 match, haunted by a 3-1 defeat inflicted by Maresca's men at Stamford Bridge last May.

Arsenal could put the frighteners up Fulham

After the international break, Arsenal travel across town to put the frighteners up a Fulham side who currently sit safely in mid-table. However, a macabre nightmare at Villa Park on Sunday sent Fulham manager Marco Silva into a hypnotic rage on the sidelines.

Maximum points at Fulham could ramp up the pressure on Liverpool who entertain their deadly foes Manchester United at Anfield.

Form seems to go out of the window when these two monsters of English football meet in the Premier League. So far this season, Ruben Amorim's side has only won two of their six matches. Amorim himself looks like a dead man walking.

Speculation that he will be sacked by the time this fixture comes around may be premature but defeat at home to Sunderland on the fourth of October could well bring an end to his tenure at Old Trafford.

That could mean a new face in the dugout by the time United travel to Anfield. What impact that might have on United's tortured souls is anybody's guess.

Eze could haunt his former club

With the month of October drawing to a close, the Gunners entertain Crystal Palace at the Emirates. Palace have started the season brilliantly but Arsenal should have too much for the Eagles. Should the Gunners prevail, and go unbeaten through October, they could begin to look like genuine title contenders.

The match could also be the first time that new signing Ebere Eze has faced his former club since signing for Arsenal at the end of the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Liverpool travel to Brentford where another slip-up by the reds could put Arsenal in charge of the title race by the time the beer stops swilling in Munich and the pumpkins are lit for Halloween.

Spooked? Arne Slot should be terrified.
