Piero Hincapie feels like a part of a family at his new club, he said in a recent interview with Arsenal.
Hincapie has been playing a lot more this season than people were expecting him to. He has not been a squad player who comes off the bench. Hincapie has actually been one of the most reliable players that Mikel Arteta has this season.
It has been a really good first few months for the player who joined on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in September.
There are definitely things for him to improve on, and there is a case for him to play even more and eventually become a full-time starter at the club, but he would be pretty happy with his current involvement.
It is not just the minutes that he is playing, it is also the environment that he is in that makes a big difference when you start at a new club, and Hincapie looks to be very happy.
Piero Hincapie makes honest admission after strong start at Arsenal
He said: “I think we are a family and we stay united at all times, especially the tough ones, which is the key factor. This team has incredible conviction. I can’t help but admire it. I think our conviction and working hard to improve are crucial. There’s still a long way to go, but I’m convinced we can achieve something big.”
It is good to see the ambition in not just Hincapie, but also other players who have given interviews in the last few weeks about winning titles together.
They know that this is the time to win and they are slowly building that mentality where they know what is expected of them and they know how to deliver that to the fans.
It gives them a sense of togetherness, but also a sense of eagerness to do things differently from what they used to do in the past.
Hincapie has not been around for as long as some of the other players in the squad, but it is obvious and understandable what the club is going through when you have been there for long enough.
It is also worth noting that he would know a thing or two about winning titles, which he did at Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso.
Having experience in those situations definitely helps, and Hincapie would use that experience to good use and help his teammates who are relatively new when it comes to these things.
It is a good thing that Arteta has built an environment where these players are seemingly close to each other and want to build something together. It is now up to them to realise their dreams and aspirations and see how far they can go with the amount of quality that there is in this squad.
