Positives & negatives from Arsenal's Champions League opener in Spain

Arsenal got their Champions League campaign off to a promising start with a hard-fought victory against a high pressing and determined Athletic Club Bilbao in Spain tonight.

Negative #1: Declan Rice must temper his aggression

Rice plays on the edge for Arsenal and that's usually a good thing. However, he does need to control his urge to throw himself recklessly into challenges that he has no chance of winning. He did this early on against Athletic Club and picked up a yellow that put him under pressure for the rest of the match.

The captain calmed himself down during the break and came back a far more composed version of himself.

Playing in a more withdrawn role, Rice and Zubimendi allowed Mikel Merino to advance further forward in the second half.


Positive #2: Noni Madueke put in an another eye-catching shift

Noni Madueke put in another excellent shift in Bilbao. He was a constant thorn in the side of Adama Boiro who he got the better of time and time again.

A threat throughout, Madueke had shots at goal.
