Positive #3: David Raya shows quality again

Trossard and Partey may have been the goal-scorers on the night, but Arsenal would simply not have won the game if it were not for the performance of Raya.

The Spanish shot-stopper made three saves, including his world-class effort to deny Watkins from point-blank range - and played a significant role throughout the entire game as he scooped the Man of the Match award.

After winning the Premier League Golden Glove last season, Raya looks to have carried on where he left off and is once again showing the world just why he is so highly appreciated by Arsenal fans, as he further justifies Arteta's decision to replace Aaron Ramsdale.

Negative #3: Mis-firing Gabriel Martinell

Overall, Gabriel Martinelli had a good game, as he did against Wolves last weekend, but there were notable flaws in his game at Villa Park.

An eagerness to get on the scoresheet, coupled with a general lack of confidence, have seen Martinelli's end product become something of a problem for Arsenal of late, and Trossard's impact from the bench will do little to help the Brazilian's case to retain the starting role.

Speaking after the game, Arteta said via arsenal.com: "When you don’t get picked, there are certain ways to react. Leo is upset, but upset to show on the pitch how good he is. It is a good example for the rest of the team."
