3. Gabriel Magalhaes

There is something quite refreshing about saying a player who has been at the club for four years has "stepped up a level". Indeed, this has been the trajectory of the Brazilian so far since he only continues to get better.

Last season, he formed a formidable partnership with William Saliba, who felt like a new signing at the time. This campaign, though, Gabriel has made for himself in his own right, as he has been the best defender so far this season.

Thinking back to the start of this season feels like a distant memory but Gabriel was benched pretty consecutively by Mikel Arteta. Even the Spanish coach, who is renowned for being stubborn, couldn't stick with this decision as the marked improvement when Gabriel was reintroduced to the defensive line was undeniable. Now, the thought of benching Gabriel is unthinkable.
