3. Midfielder

This positional requirement is largely in relation to the status of Thomas Partey and Jorginho; At 31 and 32 respectively, it's highly probable that both are uninvolved in Arsenal's future. Yet, both carry some important responsibilities and transferring these across seamlessly to the next generation of the midfield will be vital.

No other player in Europe's top five leagues has won more duels than Mikel Merino, and his signing will definitely alleviate some of the pressure of addressing Partey's physical decline.

But Jorginho's intelligent and proactive distribution of the ball from midfield is unique to the squad. A true midfield general, replacing the Italian will be difficult, but equally as important too.

Potential Signings

Unfortunately, the market for quality midfielders of the ideal profile seems quite bare. Bruno Guimaraes being labelled captain for Newcastle effectively rules him out of the equation, but he could have been a fantastic addition, albeit expensive.

Similarly, Martin Zubimendi has conclusively shut the door on any exit from Spain, following a recent approach from Liverpool.

Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace has recently rose to prominence, and also earned a call-up to the England national team for the Euros 2024. Olive Glasner will be keen on keeping the 20-year-old for at least another season, but he could be a seamless fit in Mikel Arteta's setup, and could be one to watch, if not this summer, then in the next.
