David Raya signed for Arsenal on loan from Brentford last summer and almost immediately displaced Aaron Ramsdale as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

The Spain international has had a solid first season for the Gunners, keeping 14 clean sheets in the Premier League and is very close to securing the Golden Glove. However, he has made mistakes at times this season which throw his ability into doubt.

Nevertheless, it has been reported that Raya will join the club permanently this summer but that doesn't necessarily mean he will be the long-term keeper choice. There are three reasons why this is the case.

Despite a largely successful season, Raya has been prone to errors over this campaign. He has made three errors leading to goal this season, the joint third most in the Premier League. Not all of his mistakes have cost goals but have also put the team in difficult and dangerous situations.

Granted, every goalkeeper makes a mistake every now and then but Raya is in a different positon to those. As shown with his most recent error at Tottenham on Sunday, these mistakes can almost or entirely cost teams results and can have a huge impact on their season.

Arsenal pride themselves on their superior defensive ability so David Raya can't continue to make these sloppy mistakes.
