2. Trossard has greater output

Part of the reason why the spotlight is suddenly on Leandro Trossard is because the Belgian has been getting amongst the goals this season. While there is more to a player's abilities than how much they produce, there's no denying that the most important factor concerning which attackers should make the starting lineup is their attacking output.

As per WhoScored, here is the difference between Leandro Trossard's and Gabriel Martinelli's attacking output this season (across all competitions):

Leandro Trossard

Gabriel Martinelli

Minutes Played

1,887

2,372

Goals

13

8

Assists

2

5

As shown, Leandro Trossard has a greater attacking output than Gabriel Martinelli. It is difficult to find a counter-argument to this which justifies Gabriel Martinelli playing more minutes based on Trossard being the more effective player.

It is important to note, though, that Trossard has sometimes stepped in to play as Arsenal's striker this season. Regardless, WhoScored statistics show that Trossard has made more appearances as a left-winger (13) than he has as a centre forward (7) this season.
