3. A point of pride
Simply put, to not sign Raya permanently would be an embarrassment for the club and, significantly, Arteta.
To drop your starting goalkeeper for almost an entire season, only to not sign the player that you replaced him with, leaving you crawling back to Ramsdale, would be a scenario that neither the club, manager nor player, realistically, would want.
It would create a situation whereby Ramsdale's future at the club looks untenable, but it feels like a natural progression and one that the club needs to follow through with as we approach the summer transfer window.
