Arsenal look set to sign a new forward in the summer and have already added a host of targets to the shortlist. Most Arsenal fans have their hearts set on Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but he is not the only name on the list.

The player Arsenal should sign is Viktor Gyökeres from Portuguese side Sporting CP. The 25-year-old centre-forward has been in immaculate form this season and has been linked to clubs across Europe.

The Swedish international is a powerful and direct forward with an eye for goal. He may not be the quickest but what he lacks in pace, he makes up for with the ability to beat his man with the ball at his feet.

With a reported release clause of £86m, some fans may be put off but any striker we sign will cost a fee in that region. Viktor Gyökeres is the real deal, this is why Arsenal must sign the forward this summer.

Gyökeres signed for Sporting CP last summer from Championship side Coventry and has set the Portuguese league alight with his form. In 34 appearances, Gyökeres has scored 31 times as well as earning 11 assists.

At the time of writing, the Swede is second in the league for goals scored with 17 in 22, averaging 111 minutes per goal. This form has been consistent across the entire season. He scored 17 in his first 20 appearances (in all competitions) and has gone on to score another 14 in his next 14 games.

Stylistically, the forward has been compared to Harry Kane, and his maiden top-flight season is certainly living up to those comparisons. Standing at over 6ft tall, the striker also offers a huge presence in the air and offers the Gunners a different option to what they currently have up-front.

With how quickly he has settled at Sporting it is easy to forget that this is his first season at the club or indeed in one of Europe’s top flights, although he is no stranger to English football…
