Havertz took up a different position from where he started against Porto, but thrived as he played through the middle against Newcastle.

While on the face of it his goal looked something of a 'tap in', Havertz's composure and positioning to be able to convert the chance despite being pressured by Kieran Trippier was superb.

He also, thanks largely to Bukayo Saka, earned an assist, but it was his all-round play which really took centre stage in the game.

His ability to frustrate and break down the Newcastle defence with such ease, as well as having an 87% passing accuracy, made Arsenal's attack incredibly fluid and more than justified Arteta's decision to play the German up front.
