3 standout players from Arsenal's season-closing win at the Emirates
- Arsenal beat Everton 2-1 to wrap up 2023/24 season
- No Premier League title as Man City beat West Ham 3-1
- Martin Odegaard among standouts on final day
Arsenal beat Everton 2-1 at the Emirates to round off their Premier League campaign with a win, albeit not the trophy they were aiming for.
The Gunners did all they could on the final day, but Manchester City’s win against West Ham meant that the trophy stayed in Manchester.
It was a nervy affair in north London - the home side looked threatening but struggled to apply the finishing touch. In fact, it was Everton who took the lead after a free-kick deflected off Declan Rice and wrong-footed David Raya in goal.
The response was almost instant from the Gunners as Takehiro Tomiyasu smashed the ball in from the edge of the box.
Kai Havertz finally gave the home side the lead just before the end of the 90. It was a simple finish for the German after Martin Odegaard had already taken Jordan Pickford out of the game.
Here were the standouts from Arsenal's victory on the final day.
3 standout players from Arsenal's season-closing win at the Emirates
1. Martin Odegaard
Martin Odegaard rounded off another incredible season with a strong performance in midfield.
His two assists were vital to earning the three points but perhaps his seven chances created were more representative of his performance and his season as a whole.
The Norwegian showed his incredible stamina once more as he led the press at full speed for the full 90 minutes, his intensity never relenting.
This season, Odegaard won possession in the final third an average of 1.2 times per game as well as an average of 2.3 times per game in midfield.
Odegaard is only getting better in an Arsenal shirt and with the potential introduction of a new star striker, his numbers will only improve.
