Mikel Merino made his long-awaited Arsenal debut off the bench against PSG and is likely to continue in the squad for the Southampton game. The summer signing suffered a shoulder injury in his first training session and was unavailable until recently.

If Arteta feels Merino is ready, there is a possibility he could start against Southampton. This would be unlikely however, as it would certainly be seen as throwing the midfielder into the deep end.

Regardless, it is a good chance for Merino to make his Premier League debut. Taking on struggling opposition, it is very likely the Spain international will be involved in some way.
