  • Arsenal are winless in their last three games
  • Aston Villa loss took the Premier League title out of their hands
  • Champions League exit means the Gunners have one trophy to play for

2. Revert to early-season pragmatism

Come back stodgy football, all is forgiven.

Fans will remember the concerns from earlier this season when Arsenal began 2023/24 in turgid style; labouring to break down low-blocks, moving the ball at a slow pace and struggling to create any clear-cut chances.

It was not always pretty, but the team conserved energy during that period and claimed enough points to stay in the title hunt, before they turned the screw after a warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

But a more ‘gung-ho’ approach of late has seen us pile men forward when attacking, which leaves the team particularly vulnerable to counter-attacks as tired, mid-April bodies cannot quickly recover their defensive position - as evidenced both in Munich and at the Emirates stadium last week.

There are huge clashes on the horizon as well as short turnarounds for which Arsenal must adequately prepare. Bearing that in mind, maybe Arteta has to put his ego aside (his words) and do what he has to do to win these upcoming games.
