2. It was a defensive masterclass

In choosing to sit out of possession, the Gunners required complete defensive concentration for 90+ minutes. 

Man City had scored at the Etihad for the past 57 games. However, the reigning champions failed to place a real dent in the Arsenal defence. Besides a Nathan Ake shot which bounced off his shoulder, City did not register a shot on target.

In fact, City only managed one shot on target in both games against Arsenal in the Premier League this season. Star striker Erling Haaland failed to register a shot on target in either game.

This is down to an incredible team performance, with every player ready to put their body on the line for the team. The game once again highlighted the importance of William Saliba and Gabriel at the back. A partnership that was sorely missed during the run-in last season.
