Martin Odegaard (winner)

Needless to say, Martin Odegaard is more than capable of stepping in to fulfil his defensive responisbilities. The Norwegian captain covers a lot of ground and he is excellent at tracking back to recover lost balls.

However, his attacking prowess is the main asset which he carries so he will be glad to have more defensive coverage in the midfield, with Douglas Luiz in the starting lineup. As mentioned, Luiz is also excellent in the attacking third, so it's a win-win situation for the captain Odegaard if Luiz were signed.

Thomas Partey (loser)

Unfortunately for Thomas Partey, I cannot see him in the starting lineup with Douglas Luiz signed. Partey is undeniably an excellent midfielder and he has served Arsenal well (when he's been fit) but with Douglas Luiz in the hierarchy, Partey doesn't get into the team. I think Luiz' arrival would mean the departure of Partey, but maybe that's just me.
