Since becoming Arsenal manager in 2019, Mikel Arteta has signed 26 players for the club, including both loans and permanent transfers. Some of these have been brilliant while others not so much.

Out of the 26 players Arteta has signed, a few stand out as the most important additions he has made to his north London project.

1. Gabriel Magalhaes

Gabriel Magalhaes was the first major player brought to Arsenal by Mikel Arteta and the first step on the ladder of his rebuild. For what now seems like an unbelievably cheap fee of £23m, Gabriel joined the Gunners from Lille in September 2020.

In the nearly four years since joining the club, Gabriel has made 156 appearances - putting him just second behind Bukayo Saka for most games played under Arteta. He has no doubt been one of the Spaniard's most important players during his time at the club and he looks like he will continue to be for years to come.

With 14 league goals for the Gunners, Gabriel is the highest scoring centre back in the Premier League since he signed for the club. His presence in opposition boxes has allowed his side to be much more dominant from set pieces.

He has rarely picked up injuries since his first season with Arsenal and as a result has had a constant presence in the team. Gabriel has developed into one of the most underrated and arguably one of the best central defenders in the Premier League and looks like he will continue to get better.
