Just under three years ago, Emile Smith Rowe, along with Bukayo Saka, looked to be the future of Arsenal and currently, only one of them is fulfilling that prophecy. Many regard Smith Rowe as the man who saved Mikel Arteta's job when he came into the side for a 3-1 win over Chelsea in December 2020. A fine array of performances for the remainder of that season saw the 'Croydon De Bruyne' rewarded with a long-term contract and the number ten shirt.

Smith Rowe enjoyed a brilliant 2021/22 season, scoring ten goals in the Premier League and finishing behind only Saka in the club's scoring charts. However, he has been plagued with injuries since the tail end of this campaign and that has halted his chances of a serious future at Arsenal. He missed the majority of the 2022/23 season and has had to settle for a role on the bench this year.

He has started just two league games all season and has come off the bench only eight times. The few minutes he has played this season have mostly come when the team have been in a comfortable position. Mikel Arteta has seemed reluctant to bring Smith Rowe at times when Arsenal are on the hunt for a goal which must mean he doesn't view him as the same attacking threat he was two seasons ago.

Given that Arteta no longer view Smith Rowe as someone who can help the team when they need it most, Arsenal should sell in the summer. Similar to Ramsdale's situation, this would also be for the sake of Smith Rowe's career. His contract is set to expire in 2026 so this summer will be the last chance for Arsenal to sell the midfielder for a serious amount.
