4. Thierry Henry

  • When did Arsenal sign Thierry Henry? 3 August 1999
  • Where did Arsenal sign Thierry Henry from? Juventus
  • How much did Arsenal pay for Thierry Henry? £11m

Thierry Henry needs absolutely no introduction to Arsenal fans. He is a household name within the sport, let alone the club he reached world-class status at. Signed in the summer transfer window of 1999, after just a short stint at Juventus, Arsene Wenger re-signed Thierry Henry with a plan at the back of his mind.

Arsene Wenger converted Thierry Henry to a centre forward, after he had previously used him as a winger at AS Monaco. Replacing Nicolas Anelka was never an easy task but Thierry made it look easy and he is now widely regarded as the best striker in Premier League history.

Across eight years, Thierry Henry scored 174 Premier League goals for Arsenal (he added one more when returning on loan). This is a Premier League record only bettered by six players. An incredible player made possible by Arsene Wenger making a punt in the summer transfer window of 1999.
