2. Nicolas Anelka (€35m)
Hilariously, you would have to stretch back as far as 2000 to find the SECOND most expensive Arsenal sale of all-time. This means that until Oxlade-Chamberlain was sold to Liverpool in 2018, Anelka held the record for EIGHTEEN years.
At the age of 20 years old, a young Nicolas Anelka was sold from Arsenal to Real Madrid for a fee of €35m, one which was quite hefty for this time period. Anelka went on to become one of the all-time great strikers, but not at Real Madrid.
It wasn't until Nicolas Anelka returned to the Premier League a few years later that he justified his price tag as a youngster. It wasn't to be for him at Real Madrid but he is mostly remembered for his time with Manchester City and Chelsea. It was with Chelsea where Anelka had his longest career stint of just four years, which speaks volumes about his loyalty.
