4. Cesc Fabregas (€34m)
In a transfer fee which matched that of Alexis Sanchez, Cesc Fabregas was heartbreakingly sold by Arsenal in 2012. The Spanish midfielder who was a former Arsenal captain adopted the trend which would be followed by other Arsenal captains - Transferring to Barcelona.
Cesc Fabregas achieved huge success in Spain, after being mentored by one of the greatest to ever do it, Arsene. He won one La Liga title with Barcelona and played alongside some incredible players.
Do I really need to explain what happened next?
Sigh, okay.
For those who don't know, Cesc Fabregas joined Chelsea later in his career. It was unfortunate, since many were rooting for him to re-join Arsenal which would have been the fairytale ending to his illustrious career. Much to the annoyance of Arsenal fans, though, his most successful spell came at Chelsea, winning the Premier League twice.
