3. Gabriel Magalhaes

While it is William Saliba who understandably receives all the plaudits, Gabriel Magalhaes has been the best Arsenal defender this season. Last campaign, everybody recognised his qualities as a defender but this time around, he is recognised as stepping up a level and becoming one of the prominent members of the squad.

While goals are by no means the right way to judge a defender, it is interesting to note that Gabriel has scored four goals this season, compared to his three last campaign. This is a testament to his sheer aerial ability, which has been the selling point for Gabriel this season.

A passionate defender who defends with his whole heart, it is easy to understand why Arsenal fans love Gabriel so much. It must also be noted that at the start of the season, there were a few games where Mikel Arteta seemed to be pushing Gabriel out of the starting lineup. He made that an impossible task.
