Marquinhos joined Arsenal from Sao Paulo for €3.5m in 2022 in what seemed like an attempt to sign another Gabriel Martinelli.

This has not worked out for either the club or the player with Marquinhos failing to make an impact with the Gunners. He scored and assisted on his debut in a 2-1 win over FC Zurich but made just six appearances for the club.

He has spent the past year and a half away on loan with three different clubs. His latest loan move saw him return to his home nation with Fluminense. There is reported to be a buy option included in this deal so it is entirely plausible he could leave Arsenal this summer.

Marquinhos was simply never good enough for Arsenal and his signing was arguably just a punt at plucking out another Brazilian talent like Martinelli. However, he could not emulate his compatriot.
